Arthroscopy is the most significant advance in small animal orthopaedics in a generation and can provide more information about intraarticular pathology than any other diagnostic technique. The minimally invasive nature of arthroscopy is readily accepted by clients and they are more willing to allow arthroscopy than open surgical procedures. This provides earlier intervention which translates into better results. Using arthroscopy to eliminate the surgical trauma of open arthrotomy decreases postoperative pain and reduces recovery times.
This course will cover the basic principles of arthroscopy including how to access the shoulder, elbow, carpus, hip, stifle and tibiotarsal joints. Normal joint anatomy and common pathological conditions will be covered with an extensive display of images. Operative procedures will be covered for the common joint pathologies. Ample wet lab time will be available to practice entering and examining joints plus performing basic operative procedures. |
