Course content

A failure to perform or a loss of performance is a very common presenting problem for the equine clinician in any sort of equine practice. Many cases are purely unrealistic expectations of the trainer, rider or owner but there are a whole variety of causes, some of which can occur together within an individual case. The key to these cases is a structured and methodical approach focused on achieving a definitive diagnosis. The main causes lie in the musculoskeletal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems and the course will focus on these areas using a mixture of highly illustrated lectures, and case-based and open discussions. It will focus on those areas that can be addressed effectively and economically. The day is intended to be relaxed, informal and very interactive with plenty of discussion time available. All the tutors have a wealth of practical knowledge gained from working in busy equine practice and referral clinics.

Specific areas to be covered include:

• Approach to the poorly performing horse

• Cardiovascular problems

• Orthopaedic problems in the sport and race horse

• Respiratory problems in the poor performance horse

Course Format

One day workshop course using highly illustrated lectures, case based and open discussion groups.
