Jonathan Pycock BVetMed PhD DESM MRCVS

 

Jonathan F Pycock has worked exclusively in the field of equine reproduction since graduation. This has included extensive periods in both an academic and practice environment. During his career he has delivered equine CPD in many countries of the world and been the main speaker at the Annual Congress of the Equine Associations of Australia, Argentina and South Africa as well as speaking at several times at the Annual Association of American Equine Practitioners and more than a dozen times at the Annual British Equine Veterinary Association Annual Congress. He has given countless practical courses throughout the UK and the rest of the world and co-authored the major text book: Current Therapy in Equine Reproduction. He enjoys a reputation for giving high-quality CPD which is highly illustrated and practically orientated.

 

Course Content

 

This course provides the delegate with an up to date and comprehensive approach to the most commonly encountered aspects of equine reproduction in veterinary practice. An extensive range of high-quality ultrasound images, including video clips, ensure the material is presented in a style that can be easily related to. The procedures involved in examination of mares, both normal and subfertile are presented in a highly illustrated format with constant reference to situations encountered in practice. Commonly used hormones used to manipulate the cycle and treatments for problem mares are discussed in an interactive forum. Pregnancy diagnosis including twin management is considered in detail. The artificial insemination process, including common pitfalls and management of problem mares concludes this course.

 

Key Learning Objectives

 

By the end of this course, delegates should be able to:

 

• Describe the procedure for a complete breeding soundness examination of the mare and stallion including screening for venereal pathogens

 

• Understand normal breeding management principles including methods of assessing optimal breeding time and diagnosis of pregnancy • List hormonal methods for manipulation of the cycle • Describe the principles of diagnosis, treatment and management of common causes of infertility including post-coital endometritis
