Our knowledge of the reproductive problems of the mare and how to treat and manage them has increased considerably in the last 30 years. In addition, the wide availability of ultrasonography for use in the broodmare has helped clinicians to gain a clearer image of the reproductive events in the barren and pregnant mare. Finally, the widespread uptake of artificial insemination techniques in the UK non Thoroughbred horse world has increased the contact of general practitioners to this reproductive technique and placed pressure on them to become more familiar with the broodmare, her problems and the new techniques available in both diagnosis and treatment.
This course does not pretend to tell you everything about mare reproduction but it is intended to help general practitioners increase their knowledge of mare reproductive problems, how to manage them, and finally how to prepare a mare for AI and effectively inseminate it. The course will be conducted in a relaxed and informal manner with extra time available after lectures for discussion. Delegates will be encouraged to interact fully with tutors in the case based open discussions. All the tutors are in commercial reproductive clinical practice and have vast experience in this field.
