Course summary:

This course is designed to help veterinarians to gain the very latest ideas on the approach to, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of some of the common problems of equine medicine seen in clinical practice in the horse and pony. Extra time will be available after lectures for discussion and delegates will be encouraged to interact fully with tutors in the case based and open discussions. In addition, there will be case quizzes on two days. The combined talents and practical experiences of a group of university-based and practice equine clinicians, of vast experience in this field, along with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, will stimulate delegates to assimilate knowledge on, and to discuss, these very important clinical problems in the horse and pony.

 

Specific areas to be covered include:

 

• Diarrhoea

• Weight Loss

• Chronic abdominal pain

• Coughing

• Nasal discharge

• Respiratory Distress

• Epistaxis

• Pruritus

• Head Shaking

• Metabolic and endocrine diseases

• Pyrexia of unknown origin

• Weakness and collapse

 

Course Format

 

Three day course using: highly illustrated lectures, case based discussion groups, open discussions and case quizzes The course can be attended on a one, two or three day basis.

 

Level

 

Suitable for veterinarians from mixed and equine practice who are seeking to update their knowledge of these common and often perplexing areas of equine clinical medicine. It is designed to fulfil part of the requirements for the new modular RCVS certificates in equine subjects
