Many clinical practices now have access to additional facilities ranging from just a couple of loose boxes, through small clinics to fully fledged hospital style premises. Whilst constructing and equipping buildings is one thing, to use them properly and effectively requires the clinicians who use them to acquire new knowledge and skills. There has been a massive increase in knowledge regarding the intensive care of the horse and foal in the last 10-15 years and it is easy to become overwhelmed by this when attempting to develop your own knowledge in this field. This course, using a mixture of highly illustrated lectures, case-based and open discussions, is designed to give clinicians the relevant, practical knowledge required to treat the most common problems that may require intensive care. It will focus on those areas that can be addressed effectively and economically. The day is intended to be relaxed, informal and very interactive with plenty of discussion time available. All the tutors have a wealth of practical knowledge gained from working in busy private equine practice and referral clinics.

Specific areas to be covered include:

• The sick foal

• Emergency eye conditions

• Colic

• Pleuropneumonia and pneumonias

• Acute diarrhoea

• Acute neurological cases

• Acute laminitis

• Emergency heart cases

• Hyperlipaemia

• Parenteral nutrition
