Anaesthesia update for the theatre nurse
Course tutor: Karen Walsh BVetMed DVA DipECVAA MRCVS European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia
Karen graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 1994 and after a short time in mixed practice undertook a Residency in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the Animal Health Trust. While maintaining her interest in anaesthesia she returned to first opinion practice until January 2006 when she joined the Royal Veterinary College as a Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia. She now is establishing her own anaesthesia advisory service and she has a special interest in nurse training.
The course will look at recent developments in anaesthetic and analgesic drugs available in veterinary practice. Special emphasis will be paid to advanced monitoring techniques, which can also be applied to intensive care patients. Active participation will be encouraged by delegates and several case based interactive discussions will be included

Who should attend

Qualified Veterinary Nurses with an interest in anaesthesia and intensive care, who are keen to improve their skills. All veterinary nurses with a wish to increase their knowledge of new developments in veterinary anaesthesia will benefit from attending this course.

• How to make appropriate anaesthetic drug choices

• Become comfortable with the different types of monitoring equipment

• Confidently interpret information from monitoring equipment and act accordingly

• Improve the confidence to care for patients that require more advanced anaesthetic techniques

• Learn to recognise ‘challenging’ anaesthetic patients
