Cardiology - Electrocardiography of the dog and cat
Cardiology - Electrocardiography of the dog and cat
Principal Tutor: John Sauvage BA (Hons) BVet Med Cert SAC MRCVS
John qualified from the Royal Veterinary College and has been in first opinion and referral practice ever since. He is senior partner in Pierson Stewart and Partners, a six veterinary surgeon practice in Cranbrook Kent with four other local branches seeing both cardiac and dental referrals as well as first opinion cases. In 1987 He obtained an Honours degree from the Open University in History and Philosophy including the history and philosophy of Science. He then went on while still in fulltime practice to obtain a Certificate in Small Animal Cardiology in 1990. John was the first cardiologist to offer an ECG fax referral service and regularly receives ECGs from as far afield as Saudi Arabia.
The ECG Machine is probably still one of the most underused diagnostic aids. The reasons are that many otherwise excellent veterinary clinicians are wary of both taking and attempting to interpret ECGs. If you are unsure why it is usually Lead II that is studied, what is meant by Electrical Axis and what is the clinical relevance of PQRST wave changes then this could be the best CPD day you have spent out of the practice for years. There is no doubt that evidence of cardiac re-modelling is becoming increasingly important with regard to therapy as well as diagnosis so this course is extremely relevant.
Key Learning Objectives:
By the end of this course, delegates should have a thorough understanding of:
The reasons for taking an ECG of the dog and cat
How to take an ECG
Interpretation of ECGs
The value of an ECG in a cardiac work-up
