Laboratory Techniques in Small Animal Practice for Veterinary Nurses
Principal Tutor: Kathleen Tennant BVetMed CertSAM CertVC MRCVS
Kathleen Tennant graduated from the RVC in 1996, completed a small animal internship before leaving for a small animal medicine and clinical pathology residency at the University of Cambridge. A year in practice was followed by five years as a lecturer in clinical pathology back at the RVC. For the last year she has been a clinical fellow in clinical pathology at the University of Bristol.
Course content:
The course will cover what you need to know about generating and interpreting results in the laboratory from a practical point of view, from troubleshooting errant machines to telling the difference between a Howell Jolly body and a Heinz body. Practical sessions are designed to ensure that the theory can be put into practice in the real world, with real cases to illustrate the sometimes abstract art of clinical pathology.

Aimed primarily at nurses and lab technicians who are responsible for the practice laboratory, the course is for those who wish to have a solid grounding in lab medicine, enabling them to produce results with confidence.
