Simon spent two years in small animal practice before undertaking a residency at the University of Bristol in Small Animal Medicine and Intensive Care, where he has stayed to complete a fourth year. He is currently studying towards the European Diploma in Small Animal Medicine and is looking forward to working in private referral practice later this year.
The course will cover the approach and stabilisation of the emergency medical patient aiming to give delegates confidence to deal with the common emergencies seen in practice. Practical techniques will be covered in detail and a selection of cases used for illustration.
The emergency database will be discussed, aiming to provide delegates with a sound understanding of the causes and treatment options for the more common electrolyte and acid-base disturbances encountered in practice. The basics of fluid therapy and transfusion medicine will be covered, including the use of component therapy. Cardiopulmonary-cerebral resuscitation will be covered in case things don't go to plan.
