Simon spent two year in small animal practice before under taking a residency at the University of Bristol in Small Animal Medicine and Intensive Care. He is currently studying toward the European Diploma in Small Animal Medicine, whilst working in private referral practice. He has a keen interest in emergency medicine, however sees cases through all areas of small animal medicine.
Course content
The course will cover the approach and stabilisation of the emergency medical patient. Practical techniques will be covered in detail and along with case based approaches to commonly seen emergencies such as the status epilepticus, diabetic ketoacidosis and acute renal failure. The interpretation of emergency laboratory work will be discussed in detail aiming to provide a sound understanding of the causes and treatment options for the common abnormalities encountered in emergency situations. The basics of fluid therapy and transfusion medicine will be covered, including the use of component therapy. A practical approach to cardiopulmonary-cerebral resuscitation will also be covered.

This course aims to give delegates confidence to deal with the common emergencies seen in small animal practice. It is suitable for all practioners who see emergency cases who would like to improve there understanding of emergency medicine.
