Hugo Schmökel DrMedVet PhD Dipl ECVS MRCVS

 

Hugo graduated from the Veterinary Faculty of the Zurich University in 1989. After his doctoral thesis he completed a Residency in Small Animal Surgery at the Veterinary Clinic of the University of Zurich. From 1994 to 1999 he worked in his own referral clinic in Switzerland. In 1999 Hugo entered the program of a clinical PhD at the Federal Technical University in Zurich and worked as an Assistant Professor in Small Animal Surgery at the University of Bern, finishing 2004 with the PhD degree. Hugo is specialized in orthopaedic and spinal surgery and in the treatment of fractures and traumatised animals

Course content
The procedure of TTA for the treatment of cranial cruciate disease in dogs will be explained on the basis of the stifle biomechanics. The planning, surgery and the implants will be discussed and possible complications addressed. The practical part of the course will include the exploration of the stifle joint through a minimal medial arthrotomy, the treatment of meniscal injuries and the TTA surgery.

Who should attend;

 

Veterinary surgeons with interest in orthopedic surgery. The TTA is an advanced procedure comparable with the TPLO, mainly used in middle to large sized dogs. Some experience in general joint and fracture surgery will be advantageous for delegates attending this course.
