Practice Development for Nurses - six-month modular course
Principal Tutor: Mr Alan Robinson BVSc DMS MRCVS

 

Alan qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in Australia and has 23 years experience in practice in the UK and Australia. He has worked as a consultant in the areas of technical service, training, product development and marketing for the veterinary pharmaceutical industry and has successfully delivered coaching and management consultancy in electronics, pharmaceutical, global retail and veterinary industries. Current projects in the veterinary market include benchmarking, seminars, CPD workshops and practice performance management

Many veterinary nurses have responsibilities for areas of practice management or practice development. This course has been designed for those nurses who wish to further develop their skills in these areas, possibly with a view to moving into practice management. The interactive and fun modules will guide delegates through the different aspects of marketing and management within a forward-thinking veterinary practice. Delegates will be able to take key ideas and practical techniques back into their practices right from the first session.  Delegates will be eligible to sit an examination leading to the ‘Level One Accreditation’ in Practice Development.

Modules:

Personal effectiveness - reducing stress and getting things done Practice time management Managing your time and managing projects. Managing stress and getting things done efficiently and effectively

 

Managing staff I - Communication - Practice and staff organisation for better communication. Effective listening, empathy and communication skills. Managing emotion and assertiveness at work.

 

Marketing your practice I - Practice branding and promotion. Differentiating your practice. Branding ideas, client and pet information packs. Effective use of Preventative Health Care and nurse clinics to attract and retain bonded clients

 

Marketing your practice II - Customer service Delivering excellent customer service, creating the right environment in reception Dealing with difficult clients Dealing with distressed clients Practice Finance Understanding practice finances and profit, working with mark-ups and discounts. Effective financial management of projects. Improving nurse financial contribution to the practice.

 

Managing staff II - Performance - Staff performance and motivation. Job roles and responsibilities. Managing your boss. Practice & team meetings. Dealing with difficult staff
