Graham Munroe BVSc(Hons) PhD CertEO DESM DipECVS FRCVS

 

Graham graduated from Bristol with Honours 1979. He has spent nine years in equine practice in UK and New Zealand and held the position of Lecturer in Equine Surgery and Reproduction at Glasgow University. Graham gained his PhD on Neonatal Foal Ophthalmology and Fellowship by examination in equine ophthalmology. Graham set up a private equine consultancy practice in 1998 and consult in clinics in Scotland and Northern England, and occasionally in Europe.

 

Course Content

 

The diagnosis, management and treatment of common diseases of the upper and lower respiratory tract will be discussed, including paranasal sinus disease, diseases of the guttural pouches, dorsal displacement of the soft palate, laryngeal hemiplegia, inflammatory airway disease and infectious causes of respiratory disease. These will used to highlight the approach to differential diagnosis of the coughing horse, nasal discharge, epistaxis and respiratory noise.

 

Key Learning Objectives

 

By the end of this course, delegates should understand:

 

• The respiratory system – medical and surgical conditions of the upper and lower respiratory tract

• Describe the different diagnostic techniques and their use in the investigation of respiratory disease

• Discuss the approach to common problems including coughing, epistaxis, nasal discharge and respiratory noise

• Understand the management and treatment of common diseases, including sinus disease, guttural pouch disease, disorders of the pharynx and larynx, inflammatory airway disease (COPD, SAOPD) and infectious causes of respiratory disease.
