Lucy J. Davison MA VetMB PhD DSAM DipECVIM-CA

 

Lucy graduated from Cambridge Vet School in 1997 and spent several years in small animal practice. She joined the RVC as a clinical research fellow in 2001 and was awarded a PhD in canine diabetes in 2004. Lucy then returned to Cambridge where she completed a medicine residency, passing the DSAM and ECVIM-CA diploma in 2006.

 

Course Content

 

This course will focus on the more common endocrinopathies of the cat such as hyperthyroidism and diabetes mellitus, as well as the emerging syndromes of feline acromegaly, hyperadrenocorticism and hyperaldosteronism. The pathophysiology, clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment of each condition will be covered, and management of difficult cases will also be addressed, particularly with respect to unstable diabetes. The session will also allow opportunities for delegates to discuss controversies in the field, as well as their experience of individual cases.

By the end of this course, delegates should be able to:

 

• Define the clinical signs of common feline endocrine diseases and understand their pathogenesis

• Understand the principles of key diagnostic tests and their application for common feline endocrine diseases

• Understand the management of common feline endocrine diseases and know how to deal with some of the complications

• Know the clinical signs of some uncommon feline endocrine diseases and know how to find out more information when needed.
