Tom Cave is an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine who achieved his RCVS CertSAM in general practice before undertaking a residency in Oncology and Haematology at University of Glasgow. He passed his RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Medicine in 2003.

Course Content

This course will cover principles and practice for management of feline oncology cases through surgical, radiotherapeutic, and chemotherapeutic treatment modalities. It will also introduce the principles of tumour biology in order to demonstrate how a greater understanding of the cause of tumours directs treatment. Practical management of specific tumours including feline lymphoma, fibrosarcoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and mammary carcinoma will also be covered.

• Understand the clinical relevance of tumour biology

• Evaluate the evidence base to make rational treatment decisions for feline cancer patients

• Understand the importance of biopsy and staging in therapy decision making

• Counsel owners of cats with common malignancies on appropriate treatment options
