Course content

Whether it's the removal of single eyelid masses or four lid procedures to correct diamond eye, surgical management of eyelid conditions is something that everyone in general practice has to deal with. This course aims to provide delegates with a logical approach to eyelid surgery in the dog. It will start with an overview of the conditions requiring surgical intervention, a discussion of the preparation of the eye and the instruments required. Possible surgical techniques will be illustrated with case studies. A practical session will give you ample time to try out the operations discussed and any others that you may wish to practice under supervision.

Who should attend

This is a very practical day for veterinary surgeons with an interest in ophthalmology, as well as those who have a more surgical leaning. It's all about having a desire to learn the correct way to prepare for and perform surgery on canine eyelids.

What the course will help the attendees to do;

  • Recognise canine eyelid abnormalities that would benefit from surgical intervention
  • Plan for eyelid surgery in terms of patient and eye preparation
  • Put together a designated eyelid instrument kit
  • Begin to use magnification to help with suture placement and more precise surgery
  • Tailor the procedures they perform to each individual case and not try 'one size fits all'

Learning objectives

By the end of this course delegates should have a thorough understanding of: B

  • Which eyelid conditions require surgical therapy
  • How to prepare the eye for surgery
  • What instruments are needed for a basic eyelid kit
  • The range of surgical procedures available for use on the eyelids
  • How to choose and perform the most appropriate technique for each individual patient
