Course content:

Appreciation of peri-operative pain has increased over recent years, together with drugs and techniques to minimise it. The advent of minimally invasive techniques revolutionised human surgery and is now doing the same in veterinary surgery. As well as providing better access and greatly improved visualisation, these techniques reduce pain, morbidity and recovery times and are readily accepted by clients. This course will cover procedures that can be performed routinely in general practice, with clinical case examples and practical tuition in a wet lab environment.

Key Learning Objectives:

By the end of this course, delegates should have a thorough understanding of:

• The principles of rigid endoscopy

• Instrumentation – selection, purchase, care and sterilisation

• How to perform rhinoscopy and urethro-cystoscopy

• How to perform laparoscopy (including biopsies, bitch spay and cryptorchid castration)

• How to perform thoracoscopy (including biopsies and pericardectomy)

• The benefits for the patient, the client and the practice
