Friday morning

Welcome and introduction.

Seminars: Do you know how to use your equipment ? Discussion of the correct use of your diagnostic kit for ophthalmic examination. Concentrating on what you’ve already got in General Practice. An overview of more complex but equally useful techniques which are available.

Practical sessions: The basic eye examination. Direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy. Neuro-ophthalmic tests. Ultrasound, Slit-lamp biomicroscopy and Tonometry.

 

Friday afternoon

Seminars: Ocular therapeutics – the principles of eye medication. Practical advice on using the right drugs for treating ophthalmic disease.

Practical sessions: Case studies – what drugs to use when.

 

Saturday morning

Seminars: Diseases of the eyelids and third eyelid.

Practical sessions: Surgical techniques used to correct entropion, ectropion, macrobleparon and to remove eyelid masses. Techniques for third eyelid surgery.

 

Saturday afternoon

Seminars: Diseases of the cornea with an emphasis on ulceration.

Practical sessions: Surgical techniques for use on the cornea e.g. keratotomy, keratectomy, corneal suturing and conjunctival grafts.

 

Sunday morning

Seminars: Diseases of the lens. Glaucoma – it’s presentations, causes and management.

Practical sessions: Case studies – question and answer session.

 

Sunday afternoon

Seminars: Ocular manifestations of systemic disease.

Practical sessions: Case studies – question and answer session.

Summary:
This highly innovative and interactive course will appeal to veterinary surgeons keen to improve their understanding of ophthalmic practical techniques. The programme will involve short lectures, seminars illustrated with clinical cases, plus hands-on practical sessions where delegates can practice both diagnostic and surgical techniques.
