Course outline

Radiography is still the most important and commonly used diagnostic imaging modality in the horse. Problems seen in general practice radiographs are often due to poor technique or a lack of understanding of how to deal with commonly encountered difficulties. Advances in the technology of the process, particularly digital radiography, have improved the results but interpretation of the images and their integration into the overall management of cases is still a major issue. The course is designed to help veterinarians take better diagnostic radiographs and to develop at more logical approach to interpretation of the results. There will be a mix of highly illustrated practical lectures, film readings, illustrated case based discussions of the use of radiography and radiology, and open discussions centred around the image quiz. The combined talents and practical experiences of a group of practice and university-based equine clinicians, along with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, will stimulate delegates to assimilate knowledge on, and to discuss, how to take and interpret better radiographs.

Specific areas to be covered include:

• Radiography and radiology of the foot

• Radiography and radiology of the hock

• Radiography and radiology of the fetlock and pastern

• Radiography and radiology of the stifle
